Historical Context

The PowerBook 165 improved on the 160 with a faster 33 MHz 68030, bringing the entry-level PowerBook performance closer to the premium models. By 1993 it had become the workhorse of the PowerBook line — schools, businesses, and travelers who needed real Mac performance in a portable form without paying for the premium active-matrix display.

The Story

Powers on. Battery was difficult to remove because batteries had swelled. May try rebuilding pack. Screen had severe ghosting and looked inverted. Recapped LCD board and the image looks good again. The brightness and contrast sliders work, but might be good to recap the inverter board.
