Mac SE FDHD

030 upgrade

Circa 1989Fully Operational

Historical Context

The SE added two things the original compact Mac desperately needed: an expansion slot and a fan. The fan meant you could run it all day without the case reaching dangerous temperatures. The PDS expansion slot meant you could add an accelerator, a second CPU, or a hard disk controller. These small additions opened the compact Mac to serious professional use for the first time. This particular unit is running a Harris International 68030 upgrade card and has had the power supply replaced with a modern Meanwell unit.

The Story

Harris Int’l 68030 upgrade card pulled from other SE. Replaced Power supply with a mean well unit following JDW (Youtuber's) directions, but messed up switch and had to switch to another switch which doesn't fit quite right.
